Raising the Bar for BCMA: Addressing Pharmacy Challenges, Nursing Engagement, and Data Analysis to Improve Practice

Date & Time:
Tuesday, September 10, 2013 from 1:30pm - 3:00pm EST

Program Overview:
Join ISMP on September 10, 2013 for Raising the Bar for BCMA: Addressing Pharmacy Challenges, Nursing Engagement, and Data Analysis to Improve Practice. You will learn firsthand as two organizations with different electronic health record vendors describe their journey of advancing medication safety through optimization of barcode medication administration (BCMA).

Adding barcode verification to enhance the safety of medication administration has proven benefits; however, implementation and ongoing maintenance of this safety strategy does not come without some challenges. This ISMP-facilitated discussion with our nurse and pharmacists speakers will shine light on the barriers encountered when expanding barcode verification into the pediatric population, and the best use of organization-specific statistics to improve practice as well as promote effectiveness.

This program is beneficial to those organizations about to embark on the BCMA journey as well as those who have recently adopted this technology and who are trying to utilize their data in order to validate that organizational safety goals are being met.

Intended Audience:
Interdisciplinary teams are encouraged to attend together:
